I would like to thank you for taking the time to preview the introduction to my Ebook, How To Create Your Own Fabulous Fascinators and Creative Cocktail Hats! I have written this Ebook for the creative, passionate milliner, as well as anyone, who has had the desire to use their hidden creative talents to produce a millinery masterpiece!! For this reason, I have chosen to use equipment that is readily available to all, such as, a kettle, iron, and for those who have not yet invested in a block, I have suggested the use of a polystyrene head. It would be too great a disappointment for me, if you felt that you were not able to move forward creatively, due to a lack of the proper equipment!

I must emphasize at this point, that anyone with, passion, a good eye, and a creative heart will very easily be able to follow through on my instructions!! This should be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for you, as it is for me!!

I would also like to point out that you should feel free to make your hat in your own desired material, and color. If this is your first millinery experience, it might be wise to use a less expensive material, however the amount of material needed is minimal and the finished product in silk is spectacular, as you can see!

I have structured this E book in 12 chapters, the first 11, pertaining to the creative cocktail hat, and the final chapter deals specifically with the fabulous fascinator. Each chapter gives you a step, by step written instruction, on how to achieve the final result. I have also systematically photographed the process, so that you are able to check each step, of your work, as you go along. All in all, this Ebook has over 80 photographic illustrations on 43 pages.

Who I Am

 

My life in millinery began some 18 years ago, when I painted a collection of felt hats which I later wholesaled to Harrods, Knightsbridge …my first professional customer. Since that time I have enjoyed many hours of Millinery Creativity. I now live in South Africa and find myself to be a dying breed in Africa. It seems that China has the monopoly on price, but they can never have the monopoly on personal creative expression. At the present moment I work as a Stylist and Milliner to the TV and film industry in Cape Town. Being in this position has given me the opportunity to really explore millinery creatively. The process usually begins mentally trying to see the construction and the number of pieces needed. If I am given a photo or drawing, I place it in front of my eyeline to familiarize myself with its shape, texture, height, finishes. My mind then becomes filled with the task in front of me. I enjoy working with a deadline, as long as it is do able. Before I begin to work , my area must be cleaned…..however this does not last. I seem to be one of those creative creatures that create through chaos . It is not unusual to find my home flowing with feathers and ribbons, and the time is usually in the AM. Its 3am and I complete a beautiful piece for a Fantasy Film………it feels fabulous! It often happens that I’ll be doing something when I turn and watch my hat that I had created 2 weeks ago flash across the TV screen. It's fun and I get paid to do it! Now I would like to use my millinery knowledge to teach others the craft. There are no accessible millinery classes available to young designers or creative crafters or mad hatters, in the Cape Town. I am hoping that this will become a portal for others to display their talents upon. It is my belief that we are now entering an age of “ Information, Know How!” and that the learning HOW, will have more benefit to man than the actual product. We will free ourselves, from the bond aged belief that we are unable to survive on our own skills.
